Applications

Prior to Submitting an Application

Before you submit an application to the IRB, ensure you have completed:

  • CITI Training
  • IRB Training Video

(If you are a Westcliff student or faculty member, please refer to the resources tab to find information on how to access the aforementioned).

Exempt Application

Westcliff University reserves the Exempt (Level 1) application for research projects for which there is no human participant interaction. This includes archival data and anonymous surveys.

However, sensitive topics and vulnerable participants, such as children or minors, pregnant women, patients, physically or mentally challenged individuals, and prisoners, do not qualify for exempt research. International studies also do not qualify for exempt IRB review.

The IRB makes the final determination about whether a proposal is Exempt.

Expedited Application

The Expedited application is for research involving no more than moderate risk to human participants. Any research in which human participant interaction is anticipated and the risk is no more than minimal falls under this level.

Full Application

The Full application is for research involving more than moderate risk to human participants or research involving sensitive topics and vulnerable participants. Vulnerable participants include children or minors, pregnant women, patients, physically or mentally challenged individuals, or prisoners.

Please contact the IRB Office if you believe your research may fall in this category to receive an application at irb@westcliff.edu
